Guiding Principles
1. Allusions can be found in ANY form of artistic work.
This painting contains multiple allusions. Some examples are King Kong, McDonald's, and Starry Night.
2. Allusions can be either literal or figurative.
Literal: We went to see "The Hunger Games" last week.
Figurative: I felt like "Katniss" as I braided my hair.
In the first we are directly referencing the movie. In the second, we are using the movie as a metaphor. Both are allusions.
3. Allusions are used to connect with the audience. As an author, you can make you audience feel connected to you by referencing something you both know.
